Father, Professor, Biochemist, Business Developer, Strategy Architect, Futurist and more

Piers Nash is a biochemist, data evangelist and futurist. He trained in cancer biology, molecular virology, enzymology, signal transduction, molecular evolution and genomics. He was a professor of Cancer Biology at the University of Chicago before moving on to enterprise level strategy and admistrative roles. He is considered a world expert in biochemical cellular signal transduction – from which we derive understanding of cancer, diabetes and immunology. From 2012-2014 he developed research strategy for the $1.2 billion Medical and Biological Sciences campaign. Having identified and helped seed funding for genomic data science and laid groundwork for precision medicine efforts at UChicago, he moved to serve as strategy manager leading business development and research collaboration development for the Center for Data Intensive Science where they built and launched the National Cancer Institute's Genomic Data Commons - an integrated compute cloud to hold the nations’ cancer genomic data and clinical metadata and core initiative of VPOTUS Joe Biden's Cancer Moonshot Iniative.
Dr. Nash has over 50 published peer-reviewed papers in top journals including Nature, Science, Molecular Cell, Science Signaling etc. He has worked in biotech startups (Viron, Biogen), founded a company (BioConnect) and served as an advisor to a wide range of corporate and academic entities. He currently consults with IBM Cloud and Watson; is an Advisor to Health2047; and is an investor and advisory board member on a number of startups in the data science and healthcare space.
Piers holds a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Virology from the University of Alberta, an MBA with high honors from the Chicago Booth School of Business, and BSc in Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology, first in class, from The University of Guelph. He is a loving father of two boys, and married to Elke Aippersbach, a Radiation Oncology doctor.
